ORGATEC India | Workplace Design · Specification Trends · 2026
Something shifted quietly in India's design world over the last 18 months.
The brief changed. Clients stopped asking for "a nice office." They started asking for an office that performs - one that retains talent, supports focus, enables hybrid work, and reflects who the company actually is.
And the sourcing decisions that follow that brief? They've shifted too.
Here's what designers and architects across India are hunting for in 2026 - and why.
1. Furniture Accessories - The Category Everyone Underestimates
Monitor arms. Keyboard trays. Cable management. Laptop stands. Desk screens.
Nobody specifies these first. Everybody needs them by the end.
In 2025 at ORGATEC India, furniture accessories was the single most-sourced product category - over 2,900 visitors were looking for it. That number tells a story: India's fit-out market has matured. Clients are no longer satisfied with a desk and a chair. They want a complete workstation - one that reduces visual clutter, supports posture, and looks deliberate.
For designers, accessories are where the specification gets finished. They're also where corners get cut - and where the client notices.
Humanscale, Haworth, and Herman Miller have built entire accessory ecosystems around their workstation lines. Indian manufacturers are catching up fast.

2. Ergonomic Furniture - No Longer a Premium. Now a Baseline.
Five years ago, an ergonomic chair was a perk. Today it's in the standard specification of every GCC fit-out from Bengaluru to Hyderabad.
Why? Because 87% of Indian IT professionals report back or neck pain linked to their workstation. Because attrition in competitive talent markets has a physical environment dimension most HR teams don't track. Because clients have started asking: "Will this chair still be comfortable at 4pm?"
The ergonomic furniture category at ORGATEC India 2025 saw 2,535 active visitors. These were not browsers - they were specifiers with live briefs, comparing lumbar systems, seat depth adjustment, and breathable mesh options in person.
Kokuyo Workplace India brought their Japanese ergonomic engineering to the floor. Haworth showcased their locally manufactured seating lines. The response, in the words of Haworth India's Managing Director Manish Khandelwal: "Timely and impactful."

3. Workstations - Modular Is Now the Default
Fixed benching is out. Modular systems are in.
The reason is simple: no organisation in India's GCC ecosystem knows exactly how big it will be in three years. Headcounts double. Teams restructure. Hybrid ratios shift. A fixed workstation layout that was right on day one is wrong by year two.
Modular workstation systems - reconfigurable without demolition, redeployable across floors, adaptable to changing density requirements - are now specified in over 40% of new GCC fit-outs. At ORGATEC India 2025, 2,269 visitors were actively sourcing in this category.
For designers, the shift means specifying systems rather than pieces. It means understanding connector mechanisms, panel compatibility, power integration, and what happens when the client needs to add 50 desks in six months.
Steelcase, Godrej Interio, and a new wave of Indian modular manufacturers are all part of this conversation.

4. Acoustic Pods & Privacy Solutions - The New Meeting Room
Open offices solved one problem and created another.
Noise.
As hybrid work matured, organisations realised employees didn't need more meeting rooms - they needed better places to focus, take confidential calls, conduct virtual meetings, and collaborate without disturbing everyone around them.
That's where acoustic pods, phone booths, focus cabins and modular meeting pods have moved from premium workplace features to everyday specifications.
Designers are increasingly integrating pods into floor plans instead of constructing permanent enclosed rooms. They're faster to install, easier to relocate, and significantly more flexible as workplace layouts evolve.
Global brands like Framery, BuzziSpace, Orangebox (Steelcase), Hush (Mikomax) and Haworth continue setting benchmarks in acoustic workplace solutions, while Indian manufacturers are rapidly expanding offerings tailored for GCCs and corporate offices.
For architects, pods are no longer furniture.
They're workplace infrastructure.

5. Acoustic Panels & Sound Management - Designing for Focus
The best-designed office isn't always the quietest.
It's the one where people can hear themselves think.
As collaboration spaces increase, so does the need for acoustic balance. Designers today are specifying wall panels, ceiling baffles, suspended acoustic rafts, PET felt systems and sound-absorbing partitions much earlier in the design process than ever before.
The conversation has shifted beyond aesthetics.
It's now about speech privacy, concentration, wellbeing and productivity.
Manufacturers such as Autex Acoustics, Ecophon (Saint-Gobain), Armstrong World Industries, Rockfon, Knauf Ceiling Solutions, and Saint-Gobain Gyproc continue driving innovation in workplace acoustics globally, while Indian solution providers are seeing strong demand across commercial interiors.
For clients investing in employee experience, acoustics are no longer an upgrade.
They're becoming part of the base specification.

6. Biophilic Design - Nature Has Become a Workplace Strategy
Plants are no longer decorative.
They're strategic.
As organisations compete to attract and retain talent, workplaces are increasingly being designed to improve wellbeing, reduce stress, and create environments where people genuinely want to spend time. Biophilic design-integrating natural elements such as indoor plants, living walls, natural materials, and daylight-has moved from being an aesthetic choice to a measurable business investment.
Studies have shown that biophilic workplaces can improve employee wellbeing, creativity, focus, and overall workplace satisfaction. It's no surprise that architects are now incorporating green walls, indoor landscaping, natural textures, and biophilic furniture into workplace briefs from the very beginning rather than treating them as finishing touches.
Companies like Interface, Milliken, Gamlaa , VertVista Eco Solutions Pvt Ltd , Naava , Planterior India, GREEN FORTUNE AB, Ugaoo , Plantscape , and Biotecture continue redefining how nature integrates with modern workplaces, creating healthier, more engaging office environments that align with WELL, LEED and ESG objectives.
For today's designers, biophilic design isn't about adding more plants.
It's about designing workplaces that help people perform better.

7. Smart Pantry & Vending Solutions - The Workplace Experience Extends Beyond the Desk
The modern office isn't judged only by the workstation.
It's remembered by the experience.
Employees increasingly expect workplaces to offer café-quality coffee, healthy refreshments, seamless self-service, and thoughtfully designed breakout spaces that encourage informal collaboration. As organisations embrace hospitality-inspired workplaces, smart pantry planning has become an essential part of workplace design rather than an afterthought.
Designers are now specifying premium coffee systems, intelligent vending machines, hydration stations, and smart pantry solutions alongside furniture and collaboration spaces. These amenities not only enhance employee experience but also foster spontaneous interactions, improve convenience, and strengthen workplace culture.
Leading brands such as Nespresso Professional DK , Nestlé Professional , Lavazza Professional UK , Tchibo Coffee Service GmbH , Coffee Day Beverages , Vendiman Pvt. Ltd. , ATLAS Vending , BRITA Professional, and Eureka Forbes Ltd , bianchi vending are helping organisations create pantry experiences that match the expectations of today's workforce.
Because in 2026, workplace experience doesn't end at the desk.
Sometimes, the best ideas begin over a great cup of coffee.

What's Driving All of This?
Three forces, and they're all accelerating simultaneously:
GCC expansion. India now hosts over 1,900 Global Capability Centres. Every one of them needs furniture that reflects a global standard, fits a local workforce, and adapts as the organisation grows.
Employee wellbeing as a business metric. HR teams are now sitting in specification meetings. They're asking about lumbar support, acoustic privacy, and natural light - not because they're design enthusiasts, but because they've learned what poorly designed offices do to retention.
Space optimisation. Real estate is expensive. Every square foot needs to justify itself. That pressure is driving demand for accessories that make workstations more functional, ergonomic systems that reduce sick days, and modular layouts that flex without wasted space.
Hybrid collaboration. Video meetings have become the default mode of communication for many organisations. That shift has accelerated demand for acoustic pods, phone booths, focus rooms and workplace sound management solutions that support both in-person and virtual collaboration without increasing the built footprint.
Employee experience. Today's workplace extends far beyond desks and meeting rooms. Organisations are investing in biophilic environments, wellness-focused design, premium pantry experiences and hospitality-inspired amenities that encourage employees to return to the office, collaborate naturally and feel connected to their workplace.
The Specification Shift for 2026
The briefs coming into design studios right now have a few things in common:
- Sustainability credentials required (LEED, WELL, IGBC alignment) - Modularity built into the brief from day one, not retrofitted - Ergonomics specified at workstation level, not departmental average - Accessories integrated into the FF&E schedule, not afterthought - Product quality evaluated in person before commitment
That last point is the one designers consistently flag as the most important - and the hardest to achieve through digital research alone.
- Acoustic pods and privacy booths planned alongside meeting rooms, not added later- Sound absorption considered as seriously as lighting and ergonomics in workplace planning
Biophilic design integrated into workplace planning through indoor landscaping, green walls and wellness-focused environments
Smart pantry, coffee and vending solutions incorporated as part of the overall employee experience strategy rather than standalone facilities
