WHY ADAPTIVE DESIGN IS THE FOUNDATION OF FUTURE WORKPLACES
Adaptive design cannot mean changing layouts after problems appear. It ought to begin with the materials that surround people throughout the working day.
For years, typical office interiors have been driven by appearance: more than 70% processed wood, paint, polish, and finishes. They make a space look ready, but they do not always answer what happens after its occupation. Will the room echo? Will the surface need treatment? Will the material add toxic fumes?
These questions now feel urgent because of two things: we already consume chemicals in food, air, etc., so, at the very least, workspaces should not add to that burden; and, on top of that, the way we work has changed. Earlier, it was more physical labour, whereas now much of the work is mental: calls, presentations, decisions, concentration, and global collaboration. A workspace cannot support that if its interiors introduce noise, odour, breathing discomfort, eye irritation, headaches, fatigue, and maintenance that interfere with these tasks.
Hence, adaptive design should ask more from every surface.
PET Acoustic Panels combine performance with sustainability in a single material choice. They offer high sound absorption, with NRC values up to 0.9, while giving walls and ceilings an aesthetic role. They are lightweight and ready to use without any treatments. Made from at least 50% recycled PET and themselves recyclable, the panels support circular material use. They are low-VOC and resistant to fire, moisture, mould, heat, and impact. Available in a wide range of colours and design options, they are the unprecedented one-stop solution for the modern day.
At Medanta’s office in Gurugram, E3 PET Acoustic Panels were used to provide acoustic control in real office environments while also enhancing the design language.
Since the Industrial Revolution, buildings have only taken heavily from nature. Workplaces need to give back through better choices. Designing in accordance with nature is now both a moral and social responsibility. Adaptive design begins there: with materials that protect people, reduce waste and perform quietly every single day.
