In a world where sustainability is no longer optional but essential, Haworth is leading with purpose. Through its Second Life program, the company is reimagining what it means to design responsibly—giving its chairs a renewed future while helping organisations embrace circularity with confidence and care.

As a proud exhibitor at the inaugural edition of ORGATEC India, taking place from 4–6 November 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, Haworth is excited to showcase this pioneering program on one of Asia’s most influential platforms for workplace innovation and sustainability.

Designing for Circularity from the Start

At the heart of Second Life is Haworth’s commitment to circular design. This philosophy guides the company's approach to every product it creates, emphasising sustainable materials, long-term durability, and responsible end-of-life solutions. New Haworth products are designed with circularity in mind, ensuring that what is made today can be renewed tomorrow.

From Use to Renewal: A Circular Approach

Second Life is rooted in a simple yet powerful idea: great design deserves more than one life. Rather than letting used chairs go to waste, Haworth offers its customers two meaningful paths forward. For those who wish to continue using their existing chairs, Haworth provides expert refurbishment services, restoring each piece to peak performance through cleaning, repair, and re-upholstery.
For customers ready to part ways, Haworth offers a take-back option. These chairs are collected, refurbished to the company’s high standards, and then made available for resale to new customers who value quality, comfort, and sustainability.

Sustainability in Motion

This model is more than a service—it’s a statement. It reflects Haworth's belief that sustainability and business value are interconnected and mutually beneficial. Every chair refurbished and reused significantly cuts down on material extraction, minimises energy consumption, and reduces landfill waste.

Expanding the Circular Vision Across Asia-Pacific

In 2024, the Haworth Group expanded its circular services portfolio throughout the Asia-Pacific region. New partnerships were established to support refurbishment, recycling, buyback, and storage of furniture products. To ensure scalability and quality, Haworth developed structured workflow systems, financial tools, and warranty models tailored to circular operations.
To provide transparent insights into environmental impact, the company introduced carbon avoidance reports, verified by Bureau Veritas-helping customers quantify and communicate their sustainability efforts.
Currently, the Second Life program is available exclusively for Zody chairs. For other furniture types, Haworth offers donation or recycling assistance to ensure responsible disposal or reuse.

Local Impact, Global Vision: The India Pilot

In India, the Second Life program is being piloted with a special focus on office chairs. Refurbishment is handled locally-lowering transport emissions, supporting regional employment, and aligning with India’s increasing demand for sustainable office solutions.
This initiative reflects a glocal model: globally guided, but locally rooted—strengthening both environmental and economic outcomes.

Collaboration at the Core

Second Life is made possible through a network of trusted partners who share Haworth’s vision for a circular future.
For customers, the benefits are clear: a cost-effective way to extend product lifespan, a smaller environmental footprint, and the pride of aligning with a program that supports global and local sustainability commitments. Second Life empowers businesses to take meaningful action, without compromising on quality or comfort.
